Physical Chemistry is the application of physical principles and measurements to understand the properties of molecules and matter. The principal research interests in the physical chemistry division include:

(1) Photoactive functional nanomaterials and their potential applications,

(2) Nanocrystal synthesis and characterization, nanocatalysis,

(3) Photocatalysis and environmental photochemistry,

(4) Applying computational quantum chemistry to various chemical problems with emphasis on chemical bonding, reaction mechanisms, catalytic mechanisms and catalyst design, and electronic excited states,

(5) Applying molecular mechanics methods to design drugs and to understand the biological process.
