Dr. Zhi-Yong Yang gave a general overview of graphene research in a recent launch talk of GUCAS, covering from history, synthesis, properties, application and his research results. In beginning, Dr. Zhi-Yong Yang first introduced the history of graphene research briefly and deduced the reason why appearance of mechanical cleaved graphene was taken as the milestone of graphene science gave birth. Following that, he compared the different methods acquiring graphene materials and explained the effect of synthesizing process on the structure and properties of corresponding graphene materials. Unique properties, potential application and current challenges of realizing potentialities were presented in his talk also. In last part, he shared his studying results on local oxidized graphene with scanning probe microscopy.
